Wojciech Witold Jaruzelski (1923-2014) - politician, communist activist, general. As Chairman of the Military Council of National Salvation (1981-1983) responsible for the introduction of martial law in Poland; the last President of the People's Republic of Poland and the first President of the Third Republic of Poland.
He met John Paul II as a representative of the state during the Pope's pilgrimage to Poland. The meeting in 1983, when martial law was in force in Poland, was of particular importance.
