Summary:
Cardinal Karol Wojtyla reports on his conversation with Pope Paul VI in Rome concerning the celebrations in Poland in the spring of 1970 to honour the patrons of Poland, St Adalbert (23 April), Our Lady Queen of Poland (3 May), and St Stanislaus (8 May). The celebrations of that year were dedicated to the prayer for priests commemorating the 50th anniversary of Pope VI's priesthood and the 25th anniversary of the liberation of the Dachau camp prisoners. There used to be a concentration camp in Dachau, Germany, where over 1700 Polish priests were imprisoned. The anniversary allowed to commemorate the Polish priests murdered by the Germans. Paul VI expressed his desire to participate in the celebrations. Due to the lack of consent of the Polish authorities to the Pope's arrival in Poland, his participation had to take a different form. Cardinal Wojtyla also mentioned the Cracow memorial, a document prepared at his request in connection with the work on the encyclical “Humanae vitae”. The Cracow memorial was a statement by specialists, scientists and theologians about sexual morality, in particular about regulating conception.
