Thematic scope:
This recording shows the celebrations of the Millennium of Baptism of Poland – that is thousand years since the baptism of the first historical Polish ruler – Mieszko the First. The celebrations were held all over the country, but the main events took place in Częstochowa on Jasna Góra. The shrine with the image of Our Lady of Częstochowa is considered the spiritual “capital” of the catholic Poland. Ceremonies took place on May 3 on the feast of Our Lady, Queen of Poland. On that day, in the presence of half a million of believers the Primate Stefan Wyszyński and Polish bishops, performed the Act of Consecration of Poland to the Mother of God. The recording shows also religious celebrations and various lectures led by the Primate of Poland, Stefan Wyszyński. At the ceremonies was also present the former Archbishop of Kraków, Karol Wojtyła.
